We’ve been reading Pressible sites and noticed some interesting new uses for the Pressible network.
Furthering Classroom Discussion:
Some of our users have set up sites with the sole purpose of continuing discussions outside of class time. The function of commenting allows for students to respond directly to each others comments, or start their own thread to comment on an element of the main topic that may not be being discussed. These comments can include links to outside materials as well as students and professors’ original ideas.
Formerly its own site, Check It Out is now a topic within the Learning at the Library site. This feature gives readers notifications and information about new acquisitions made by the library as well as interviews, reviews and other resources about the title online. Included in the entry is also the call number or link where the reader may find the book at Teachers College.
Photo and Media Sites:
Sites like The Voice, Teachers College Historical Photographs, and Gottesman Video Collective (GVC), display multimedia materials about Teachers College. Along with the video, for example, GVC provides information about the equipment and processes used to create the video in its final form. The Historical Photos site not only displays a collection of photos from TC’s archives, but also adds some research on people, places or entities represented in those photos.
